Marconi’s Cutting-Edge Interactive Display Solution for the Shanghai Conservatory of Music
The brand-new Tongzhou Opera House, located in the heart of Shanghai, has chosen Marconi’s latest-generation MODE23 interactive displays to equip the stalls area of its prestigious music hall.
In collaboration with Quinette Gallay and renowned architect Christian de Portzamparc, Marconi developed a highly customized solution that seamlessly integrates into the elegant, curved backrests of the venue’s seats. The displays remain completely invisible when in standby mode, with no LCD backlight visible even in the darkest environment, preserving the immersive ambiance of the hall.
Overcoming the challenge of limited space for display integration, Marconi engineered a unique, tailor-made design, implementing state-of-the-art hardware and software to enhance audience engagement. Each 7” MODE23 interactive device is connected via a robust Marconi network, ensuring uninterrupted operation even in the event of cable, switch, or unit failures.
This project showcases Marconi’s commitment to innovation, precision, and reliability, delivering a seamless fusion of technology and artistry for one of the world’s most prestigious music institutions.
The 7” touch screen devices allow the users to select their language to display the libretto text in real time while the performance is on-going. All controlled from Marconi Onstage, proprietary software, used already worldwide by the most experienced Maestros. The maintenance team of the theatre is relaxed since they have an easy to use technical interface in the control room where a synoptic map helps them to identify potential issues that are affecting the units.
